Business Studies Trips & Visits

Over the Exeat Weekend, a group of our Year 13 business and economics pupils travelled to Barcelona, Spain, on a trip that would prove to be educational as they progress through their second year of A level study.

Year 13 pupil Febe Fisher writes:

'On the 1st day, we flew to Barcelona, which was such an exciting experience as many of us had never been to Barcelona before. Once we arrived and settled into our accommodation, we were ready for the busy days ahead.

Our 2nd day in Barcelona began with a visit to the Water Museum, where we participated in an engaging talk about water management and sustainability. We then toured the Simon Coll Chocolate Factory, discovering the production process, business operations and marketing behind one of Spain's leading chocolate manufacturers. The highlight was definitely the tasting session! Later, we visited the Cavas Freixenet winery for a fascinating tour of their production facilities. We topped off the day by enjoying an authentic Spanish buffet dinner, sampling traditional food and paella.

On our 3rd day, we visited the Barcelona Olympic Museum, where we learned about the economic impact of the 1992 Games and how they transformed the city. We then explored Montjuïc Castle, taking in stunning views across Barcelona. In the afternoon, we visited the Picasso Museum followed by a Gothic Walking Tour through Barcelona's historic quarter. We had the chance to explore Barcelona Market before enjoying an Italian dinner in the evening, with many of us taking the opportunity to buy special souvenirs to bring back home.

On our 4th and final day in Barcelona, we visited the breathtaking Sagrada Família and experienced the FC Barcelona Immersive Tour, learning about the business side of professional football. We then enjoyed a boat tour of Barcelona Port, examining international trade and the port's role in Spain's economy. From there on, we travelled to the airport, wrapping up what was an outstanding trip combining learning with cultural experiences.

A special thanks to Mrs Hill, Ms Norrington, Ms Bayley, and Mr Davis for making the business and economics trip possible and a memorable one for us all.'

Head of Business, Mrs Hill, adds:

'We often find that there is a strong link between understanding of the real-world of business and the economy and improvements in academic grades. I hope for our pupils that they found this to be an outstanding opportunity to enhance the classroom learning experience with some highly interesting and relevant real-life economics experience.'
