Criminology Trips & Visits

During the final week of term, on Thursday 22 May, our Year 12 sociology and criminology pupils had an opportunity to visit a court in London and watch live cases and sentencing.

Ms Magee, Lead Teacher for Criminology and Sociology, was accompanied by Mrs Brahaj, who also teaches criminology and psychology, on the visit to Westminster Magistrates Court where the students sat in on a variety of cases and watched the courts in session.

Westminster Magistrates Courts is a fascinating place for students. Because of the nature of the cases that are held there, it's a good opportunity for the pupils to see criminology and sociology in action outside of the classroom.

H Arnold said: ‘It was really interesting to see the courts in action. There were some serious cases, like knife crime, as well as some less serious, like fare dodging. However, it was great to see how the court manages each of them.’

R Clayton added: ‘Just watching the people in court and their interactions with the courtroom staff is what I found most interesting. But, as I do criminology, it was good to see a court in real life.’

After spending the morning the courts, the students had lunch at the Southbank Centre before taking a trip to the London Dungeon.
