It has been an exciting week of fixtures across Netball, Football, Hockey, and Rowing, with Shiplake teams showing determination, skill, and teamwork in every match. From dominant wins to hard-fought contests, our pupils have continued to demonstrate the College spirit both on and off the pitch.

Netball

1st VII vs St George’s Ascot

A huge win for the 1st VII Netball yesterday, confidently beating St George's Ascot 51-22. The girls played fantastically and showcased some outstanding netball. The hard work put in this term, building on the strength from last year, has shone through in their performance. This win means the team progress to the quarter finals of the Sisters ‘n Sports Trophy vs Aldenham College. Huge congratulations to player of the match, Alice Godfrey for showing clear strength and composure in the circle. Players player goes to Daisy Crisford who played a whole game at Centre with high fitness and skill. Coaches’ player goes to Molly Mundy for leading the team to victory, and for her impressive intercepts and marking of an Irish U19 player. The girls are eagerly looking forward to January's season.

U12 A vs Dr Challoner’s High School

The Year 7 girls played in the 3rd round of the School Sport Magazine Netball Cup yesterday against Dr Challenor's High School. Unfortunately, it wasn't their day with a 24-6 loss. However, some fantastic interceptions and pressure in defence from Ottilie Ellis-Jones and Phoebe Crawford kept Dr Challenor's working hard for their goals! Players of the match went to Phoebe Crauford and Freya Nicholson

Football

U13A vs Thorpe House School

This was a fixture that was easily balanced, and very fine margins saw Thorpe House take the win in this game. The boys showed tremendous team spirit and came close on numerous occasions to try and get a result in this game. However, a deflected free kick and late goal proved the difference. Overall, a performance the team could be proud of and something the boys can learn for future matches ahead.

U12A vs Ranelagh School

A game filled with ups and downs for the Shiplake side who managed to score a late leveller to end the game 4-4. However, ultimately this was a game the Shiplake boys will be disappointed that they did not end up getting the win having been in control of the game from the start until the last 25 minutes. Shiplake flew out the block scoring two very neatly and well worked breakaway goals. Ranelagh soon pulled one back through a mix up at the back, although Shiplake's lead was restored soon after with a thunderous left footed strike. Although, in the space of 10 minutes after half time the game changed on its head and the boys ended up being 4-3 down with Ranelagh being clinical with every chance they had. Shiplake soon regained control, and all the game was played in the Ranelagh box, but without Shiplake able to score the equaliser. However, with one minute to go a corner came in that was headed home by James M levelling the score at 4-4. A very entertaining game of football.

U12B vs Ranelagh School

As the season draws to a close, the Bs were treated to a sunny 11-aside pitch to take on Ranelagh School. From the opening passing play, it was clear it was going to be a tough contest with both sides creating chances. It was Shiplake who broke the deadlock, linking up beautifully through midfield for Spencer Blewett to finish. However, Ranelagh pushed forward and equalised after a goal mouth scramble and soon found a second goal on the counterattack with a well struck shot from the edge of the box. The second half produced end to end action, but the three-man defence was caught short again as Ranelagh made it 3-1. A fabulous long ball found James Bradford in space striking with composure to get Shiplake back in the game, but the attempts for an equaliser lead to a string of corners that could not be converted. Man of the Match was awarded to William James for some excellent saves, but credit should also go to Zac de Haan, who stopped many of their attacks in their tracks.

Hockey

U13 Sister in Sport Round 1 of the National Hockey Cup.

Shiplake travelled away to Reading Blue Coat for their latest fixture and delivered a dominant performance to claim a convincing 2-0 win, securing their place in the second round. Both goals came from Chloe Conway, whose clinical finishing proved decisive. The team worked tirelessly throughout, showing excellent composure and teamwork against strong opposition. Players of the Match were awarded to Ruby Jones for her outstanding contribution and Audrey Edimoh for an assured display in goal. Congratulations to the squad on a fantastic result and best of luck in the next round.

Rowing

Wallingford Head

On Sunday 30 November, Shiplake College Boat Club competed at Wallingford Head over the demanding 4.5km upstream course towards Wallingford Town. The event featured strong opposition and provided an excellent early-season test for our crews. The Girls’ 2nd VIII impressed with a 4th place finish in the J18 category, earning the title of fastest second boat in the event. The J15 VIII also delivered a superb performance, finishing 2nd in their category, just three seconds behind St Paul’s School. The highlight of the day came from the J16 VIII, who claimed victory in their category by a commanding 19-second margin over Radley College – a fantastic result that reflects their hard work and preparation. Congratulations to all rowers for these outstanding performances. The Boat Club looks forward to building on this success as the season progresses.
