The Junior Production has been announced, and the actors are gearing up to perform Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. A classic tale which first entranced readers with its first publication in 1894, the story maintains its hold over people today. Turned into an animated musical comedy in 1967 by Disney, the story details an abandoned baby Mowgli, who is adopted by Bagheera the Panther and raised by wolves. The unconventional story has recently been remade by Disney (in 2016), reimagined in visually stunning CGI, ensuring that the story remains popular in society over 100 years on from its original publication.

Shiplake pupils are now sinking their teeth into the world-famous script, putting their own unique spin on a truly tall tale. The whole of the Lower School are involved in the production, as well as actors from Years 9 and 10 taking part. Audience members will enter the jungle that is the Tithe Barn. Using the original Disney songs, the Shiplake Drama Department have put their own spin on the story, and will guide audiences through an urban jungle.

The play will run in the Tithe Barn, Shiplake College, from Wednesday 1 February to Saturday 4 February. Don’t be disappointed! Tickets are now available; please complete the form below to secure your place.
