On Friday evening the Great Hall was transformed into a recital studio for fifteen of our more advanced musicians.
One of our youngest Music scholars, Louis Holland, opened the event with a confident performance of Bring Him Home from Les Misérables, setting the bar high for the rest of the evening. There were no fewer than eight musicians who were performing as soloists for the first time but you would never know.
Harry Martin’s first foray as a solo classical guitarist was mesmerizing, drawing the audience in with Promise by Yvonne Bloor, followed on by a beautifully lyrical rendition of Caro Mio Ben by Jade Miller. Then followed some of college’s seasoned performers before two of its latest acquisitions: Johnny Miller and Dominik Mealing. Both boys captured the essence of the evening before handing over to one of our most aspiring performers, Robbie Rayne. Robbie closed the evening with Spring Sorrow and The Water Mill before joining guests on the lawn for refreshments and an opportunity to talk fondly of what was one of the musical highlights of the year so far.
We now look forward to welcoming you back to Shiplake for the annual Summer Concert, taking place on Wednesday 27 June.
