Today is the Headmaster's birthday! And as we couldn't wish him a happy birthday in person, the staff and pupils came together to surprise him with their own special 'Shiplake' birthday message. Mr Brown has been sending 'a tune a day' to all the staff and today's one delivered the birthday message to the Headmaster.
Mr Howe had an emotional response: "A massive thank you to all who were involved in the making of the birthday tune. I must confess that I did shed a tear (too much honesty…?). But it is an emotional time, and in writing this ‘thank you’ email, I am also acutely aware of the struggles that many within the College community are facing, and it would be wrong not to recognise and acknowledge this.
"When things are smooth, it is easy to have a smile, but people show their true colours when the chips are down. This is why I am more convinced than ever that our ‘team’, ‘community’, ‘family’, however you wish to refer to it will come through this period even stronger and more together. As I have said to many prospective parents and pupils, there is something special about Shiplake. I still can’t quite put my finger on it, but maybe it’s just something as simple as – it’s the people.
"This is an apt opportunity for me to wish you all a very happy Easter break. I hope you and your families stay healthy, and if you have any issues or problems over the three week break please do not hesitate to get in touch."
Happy Birthday Mr Howe!
