The Autumn Term brings with it the start of the Inter-House Competition and the chance for each House to go for glory in the arts, sport, and academics. All scores are reset to zero, providing the perfect opportunity for the Houses to set new targets and to claim top spot by the end of the academic year.
This year, we have taken the important step to strengthen our House system with the introduction of House Leads. Reporting to the Inter House Events Co-ordinator, Mr Dix, these Leads – Mr Ralph (Burr), Miss Platt (Everett), Miss Morgan (Orchard), Mr Bosomworth (Skipwith), and Miss Povey (Welsh) - will be responsible for co-ordinating House competitions and House Assemblies.
As well as the House Leads, each House has a pair of pupil House Captains. These pupils will lead the way in their respective Houses and set a great example to their follow peers.
Congratulations to the following pupils:
- Burr: Charlie Watkins and Phoebe Burt
- Everett: Zac Powell and Nuala Howard-Jones
- Orchard: Zac McConkey and Molly Mundy
- Skipwith: Elliot Jones and Alice Richardson
- Welsh: Angus Mullens and Bethan Thompson
The new structure is designed to ensure every House has a clear leadership team: pupils driving standards and spirit from within, guided and supported by dedicated House Leads. Together, this framework aims to reinvigorate the House system and create even greater opportunities for participation and pride.
House Captains take on a wide range of responsibilities, including:
- Setting the right tone and atmosphere within the House community
- Leading by example through high standards of conduct, work, and participation
- Organising pupils on a day-to-day basis, including duties and involvement in House events
- Speaking to the whole House when required, and passing on notices and information from staff
- Taking a prominent role in House events, ensuring guests are well looked after and offering thanks
- Acting as a bridge between the House and Housemaster, helping to resolve issues quickly and positively
These positions provide our pupils with a valuable opportunity to develop their leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to the life of their House. With this revitalised approach, House Captains will help foster stronger connections, healthy competition, and a renewed sense of community. All of this comes at an exciting time in the calendar, as the College looks forward to the first major House competition of the year – the ever-popular House Singing – which takes place at the end of the half-term on Friday 17 October.
