There were some fantastic wins before the Christmas break. All rugby teams who played Pangbourne the day after the 1st XV's Friday Night Lights match came away with victories and the girls won against St Joseph's College in their Hockey Night Lights fixture at Reading Hockey Club. A fantastic end to the season.
In Golf, Year 13 challenged staff to a Shiplake 'Ryder Cup' at Hennerton Golf Club.
Hockey
On Monday 13 December, Shiplake College played St Joseph's College for the first ever Girls' Hockey Night Lights. With a team talk from Mr Bradley beforehand, the girls went into the match strong and worked well as a team for the half time score 1-0. Throughout the match, the girls were positive and went into the second half with a lot of determination. The final score was 5-0 with A McCarthy and G Garner scoring two goals each and E Browne scoring one. She was also awarded with Player of the Match.
Thank you so much to the Reading Hockey Club for hosting us! And a massive thank you to the pizza suppliers from the Hungry Hut, they were delicious! Thank you to all the coaches - Miss Mordue, Miss James, Mr Bradley and Mrs Bayley for the amazing hockey season and also to all the girls that have played hockey this season. It has been lovely being part of such an amazing determined team who never fail to stay positive in every match.

Golf
Shiplake's inaugural staff vs Year 13 charity 'Ryder Cup’ golf competition took place just before the Christmas break at Hennerton Golf Club. It was brilliantly organised by H Batchelor (Head of College House). Result - Students 1.5 - 1.5 Staff (Draw)
In the first match A Long and O Stalder beat Mr Bowden and Mr Batchelor. H Stokes and H Batchelor drew overall with Mr Shaw. T Sharp and B Fundell lost the last of the three matches to Mr Geyton and Mr Wheeler. The highlight of the day was during the closest to pin competition on the 6th hole, a 120 yard par 3. B Fundell’s tee shot pitched roughly 6 feet beyond the hole and gradually began rolling back towards the pin before finally dropping into the hole. Screams of jubilation were reportedly heard from the 9th tee where B Fundell's hole-in-one comfortably took the prize for shot of the day. H Batchelor won the Longest Drive by one yard ahead of H Stokes.
Thank you to all of the staff and students who came to this event and donated money to our school charities.
Rugby v Pangbourne
U16A - Mr Bowden
The U16s fought right to the end to hold off Pangbourne with three great individual tries in the first half from M Walker, B Brookes and W Diver which gave us a 21-0 lead. Pangbourne came right back into it but Shiplake was fully deserving of a hard fought win that went right down to the wire. Shiplake 21-17 Pangbourne
U16B - Mr Diez-Urkidi
The U16B played probably the best game of rugby this season against Pangbourne. It was a pleasure to see the sense of togetherness and all players moving the ball around, both in attack and defence. Plenty of smiles and a great end to an enjoyable season. Final result 37-7 to Shiplake College.
U15B - Mr Miller
The U15Bs finished the season with an emphatic, 45-0 win over Pangbourne. Lots of players were among the tries, but the pick of the bunch came from (man of the match) P Gilbertson. There were also superb performances from O Morris and D Higgins.
U14A - Mr Curtis
The U14As came out of the blocks quickly with some fine all round handling. Notable performance from S Pickering. Final score at 35-20 to Shiplake. Many thanks go to A Cheek for leading from the front; not only on Saturday but throughout the term.
U14B - Mr Bradley
The under 14Bs started with a try in the first minute. The team continued to dominate with many brilliant performances and a 10 (tries ) - 2 win was the final result. A fantastic end to a tough season.
2nd XV
A strong display – saw them emerge victors with some really good rugby played.
