The girls' hockey teams held celebration events to recognise the achievements of the players from across the year groups at the end of term. For the first time, the senior hockey players held a separate black-tie dinner (instead of waiting until later in the year for a combined girls' sports dinner).
Head of Sixth Form Girls' Games, Miss Annabel James, welcomed the senior players, Year 13 parents and hockey coaches, in a beautifully-decorated Great Hall. To celebrate the Shiplake hockey spirit, the evening included a lovely dinner provided by the fantastic Thomas Franks catering team, speeches from 1st and 2nd team captains Tilly Nicholson and Isabella Broad, speeches from the coaches, awards and colours presentations, a hockey-themed quiz and lots of thank yous to everyone who supported the teams along the way.
Summing up the season, Miss James adds "This is the first time in Shiplake history that we have had this many girls playing hockey week in week out - we have had over 50 girls choosing hockey as their main sport this season, which is truly incredible. This is also the first time we have had both the 1st XI and 2nd XI playing such high quality hockey in two competitive leagues each week. I am really proud to say that the 1st XI came 2nd in the hockey league. We haven't finished the season this high up the league table in a couple of years now so I'm really really proud of the girls and all their efforts this season. The 2nd XI also came second in their league, which is amazing considering last season the girls didn't score a goal. On top of the league, we have had our first ever performances in the Stowe 6s tournament, our first ever two-day pre-season and also our Senior Inter-House Hockey - a huge well done to the Welsh team girls!"
