FOOTBALL
1st XI vs d’Overbroeck’s College (Society of Heads Cup – Southern Final)
The 1st XI won the Society of Heads Southern Region final in dramatic style winning 3-2 on penalties to book a place in the National Final taking place next Wednesday. The game started off very nervy, although Shiplake started to grow into the game and saw a deflected shot almost nestled into the bottom corner. Shiplake then took the lead when Alex Hooker's cross nestled into the far corner. Although, d'Overbroeck's equalised soon after when Shiplake were exposed at the back leaving a 3 vs 3. It was Shiplake who reacted better to this and once again regained the lead when Alex Hooker finsihed off a cross in from Daniel Jonhson-Greenwood. Before half time Shiplake managed to score a third when a lofted ball through evaded the keeper allowing Rory O'Boyle to score into an empty net. The second half restarted and very much saw Shiplake on the back foot looking to go in behind on most occasions. This saw in a matter of minutes d'Overbroeck's equalise the game at 3-3 after a scramble from a free kick and back post finish. This saw the game end 3-3 after 80 minutes. Shiplake emerged in extra time looking for that fourth goal but could not quite get that final pass leaving the game to go to penalties. The first penalty was cannoned off the post from Shiplake but an Isaac Morris save kept the game at 1-0. Toby Williams stepped up to make it 1-0 from the spot and was truly advantage Shiplake when d'Overbroeck's fired their shot off target. S Lingard calmly slotted home and left the score 2-1 when the opposition did as well. Shiplake's fourth penalty was well saved and saw the game levelled and heading to sudden death when D'Overbroeck's converted. Rory then fired his effort into the bottom left corner leaving Shiplake with the opportunity to win the tie. A diving save by Isaac to his right meant Shiplake were victorious winning 3-2 in the Southern Final.
