Owing to the Exeat Weekend, there were no weekend fixtures last Saturday, however, there were a number of midweek sports fixtures for our rugby, hockey, and football teams.
In rugby, there were National Cup games for the 1st XV and U15As. The 1st XV put in an excellent performance to win 26-22 away at The Oratory; they now progress to the next round where they will play RGS High Wycombe w/c Monday 6 October. The U15As lost 31-5 to an excellent Lord Wandsworth side. And on Thursday 25 September, a hybrid 2nd and 3rd team beat a Radley College D team 52-14. It was brilliant to involve so many new players, many making their Shiplake debut. Good luck to everyone involved this weekend against UCS.
In hockey, there were a number of Lower School girls’ games at Luckley House and our senior girls’ 2nd XI were in action against The Oratory. While the girls unfortunately lost 2-1, they played with great spirit. Scorer for Shiplake was T Bignell while J Todd was Player of the Match.
Meanwhile, for the 1st XI, the girls came 7th out of 10 in the Oxfordshire County Tournament. This is the first time a Shiplake team has been to this competition and the girls were fantastic. The girls had one win vs Cokethorpe, two draws with St Edward’s and Cranford (Cranford went on to the final) and a loss to MCS. While the side didn't progress through the pool stages due to goal difference, they had a great day out and played so well. Players of the Tournament went to B Thompson and A Godfrey.
And in football, there were a number of competitive Lower School boys’ fixtures against Marlborough School, Reddam House, Leighton Park, and Luckley House. Highlights included an 8-0 win for our U13Bs and a 3-0 win for our U12As. Well done also to the boys’ and girls’ 1st XIs who both progressed to the next round of their respective cups. The boys have another cup game on Thursday 2 October where they take on Radley College – we wish them luck!
