This November, Shiplake College went all out to support Movember, the global campaign raising awareness and funds for men’s health issues, including cancer research and mental health charities.
Traditionally, Movember at Shiplake was limited to Year 13 boys, but this year saw a major change: the fundraiser was opened to all Sixth Form boys, giving more students the chance to take part in this important cause. Ten students signed up to grow their moustaches and raise money, with each contributing a minimum £20 entry fee to kick-start the campaign.
The Sixth Form boys who took on the Movember challenge included:
- Rory Campbell
- Seb Crehan Mills
- Ismael Idris
- Max Jobson
- Thomas Lane
- Angus Mullens
- Ollie Perkins
- Archie Prosser
- George Watson
- Jake Wilson
George Watson, a Year 12 student who took part in this years Movember challenge, shared his reasons for getting involved - "I got involved for all men facing problems, whether it is with mental health, cancer or hardships I felt it was (and still is) important to get involved and represent all the men who are fighting!"
Staff were also encouraged to join the challenge, with Mr Shaw seen sporting a particularly stylish tash.
The team set an ambitious fundraising target of £1,000, and with the support of staff, pupils, and the wider Shiplake community, donations have been steadily climbing. Whether sporting impressive facial hair or simply donating to the cause, everyone involved has played a part in making this year’s effort the biggest yet.
Movember is about more than moustaches – it’s about starting conversations and supporting charities that make a real difference to men’s health. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and helped us raise awareness.
