A pizza charity week hosted by Tom Stuart (Year 13) and Everett House has raised an incredible £1,000 for the College's chosen charity, Gap Africa, and in particular Everett House's sponsored student.

On the first week after October Half Term, the delicious aroma of freshly baked pizza filled the air and wafted across the school from the Stableyard each evening as Tom Stuart from his Pizza Please Horse Box, along with sous chef Mr Armstrong cooked up a treat for hungry pupils and staff.

In Kenya secondary education is not free. It costs around £500 to send a pupil to secondary school, so many children can't afford to go. Gap Africa runs a sponsored student programme where they seek out donors to take on a student who would otherwise miss out on further education due to poverty. The money from the pizza event will help to sponsor a student as well as fund other Gap Africa projects.

In all, over four evenings Tom and Mr Armstrong cooked more than 240 pizzas. Each pizza cost £10 with a drink with all profits going to charity.

Tom Stuart, said: "It was very busy every evening, however we managed to feed everyone who wanted a pizza.

"I will be donating £1,000 to the Everett Gap Africa fund which is a considerable amount of money to raise in only four evenings - it was a busy week to say the least!

Everett Housemaster, Mr Tom Armstrong said: "Four nights, back to back, selling pizzas from Tom's Horsebox to a hungry Shiplake community was certainly full on, but a very enjoyable experience! My personal thanks to Tom for letting me assist! It was great that the initiative was so well supported by the Shiplake community and we are thrilled that it has raised such a substantial sum to support Everett House's Gap Africa sponsored student.

"A huge thanks, on behalf of the Everett community, to Tom for not just helping to facilitate this event, with his time, energy and his resources, but also for helping to steer the whole initiative from start to finish. A massive undertaking, and one for which he deserves much credit."
