The Year 12 BTEC musicians have been working hard in the last few weeks of the Autumn term. Not only did they perform in the Winter Concert, which was their first performance as a group, but they were also practising for an intimate lunchtime concert which was held on Friday 9 December for staff, pupils and parents to attend, celebrating the progress of the band who only started playing together in September.
Organised by Mr Byron Ward, the concert was held as part of the BTEC pupils’ ‘Cover’s Band’ assignment. James Grundy opened the concert, supporting the bands. James played the guitar and sang for a packed Lecture Theatre. His soulful performance was followed by the Year 12 BTEC band, consisting of Fergus Howard-Jones on the piano, keyboard and electric guitar, Will Kidd on the piano, Robbie Rayne on the drums and Juan Elkington on the bass guitar. The band were joined by Charlie Thomas and Danny Seymour, who provided vocals for the concert. They entertained the audience with renditions of Coldplay and Blur, before Danny beautifully sang David Bowie’s Let’s Dance.
It was a very entertaining concert and the audience enjoyed every minute of it – even keen for an encore! It was even more impressive when Mr Ward noted that the band had only been playing together since September, and some members are novices on their chosen instrument! Charlie and Danny kindly agreed to sing, making it a memorable and enjoyable concert.
