Yesterday, the Mayor of Henley visited Henley Music School’s Music School Sundays here at Shiplake College.
On Sunday 26 November, Mayor of Henley Kellie Hinton came to sing the praises of young musicians and instructors alike. Miss Hinton took to Twitter to describe her ‘relaxing and wonderful time’ at the School and sent her thanks to The Henley Bridge Rotary, who also performed.
Music School Sundays take place once a month at Shiplake College, when trained music instructors come to the School and teach children how to play various instruments and how to sing, and to introduce them to musical instruments they may not otherwise have access to.
Paul Greengrass of the Henley Music School has said ‘Music and the arts are vital to every child's education, wellbeing and self-belief. Henley Music School encapsulates all of these values, and is a great stepping stone towards creating well-rounded, responsible individuals, who take their love of music and performance through life.’
Music School Sundays focus on promoting teamwork amongst its younger members, and around 90 children as young as four years old enjoy lessons in choir singing, drumming and playing the recorder or drums. Youngsters up to the age of 18 also take part in the Brass Quartet, the Jazz Band, Violin Group and Cello Club.
While membership to Music School Sundays costs £140 for the whole year, bursaries are available to families who need them. For further information, please email here or contact the Henley Music School on 07969396210.
