The Shiplake Art Department was filled with light, colour and creativity on a gloriously sunny Friday afternoon as families and members of the Shiplake community gathered for the Year 7–10 Art Showcase. Held upstairs in the John Turner Building, the exhibition provided a vibrant celebration of the artistic talent and progress of our younger students.
The light-filled space buzzed with conversation as families browsed sketchbooks laid open on display and admired the wide range of work filling the room. The showcase featured painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramic houses and seed heads, alongside striking wire sculpture pieces. Each artwork reflected the skill, imagination and dedication students have developed throughout the year.
The event also offered a valuable insight for pupils considering studying Art further, with current GCSE and A Level work on display to help demonstrate the depth and possibilities of the course. Students were proud to explain their ideas and creative processes, answering thoughtful questions from visitors keen to learn more about the work on show.
Head of Art, Miss Keli Jiggens, commented: 'It has been a fantastic afternoon welcoming families into the department and giving them the chance to see the incredible range of work our students have been developing. The enthusiasm and creativity on display has been truly wonderful to see.'
The Year 7–10 Art Showcase was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate artistic achievement, inspire future creativity and share the successes of our students with the wider Shiplake community.
