Lower School's Tree Sculptures
Art

Last week, a group of our young artists in Lower School travelled to Radley College to see their Forest Project – a group exhibition collaborative in partnership with other schools in the area.

Based on the forest theme, pupils were asked to create a tree sculpture using an A4 template which was then collected and displayed at Peachcroft Farm, Abingdon.

Speaking after the exhibition, Year 7 art scholar, Millie Green, said:

‘We got invited to Radley’s Collaborative Forest Exhibition to have a look at the display of trees that lots of children had made. I made a cherry blossom tree, and I did that by using pink and purple watercolour splotches onto the tree for the tree trunk, before then using watercolour and a brown pencil for details. When we arrived, it was wonderful walking in and seeing all the trees and watching everyone shuffle around to find theirs. It was a truly Incredible experience that we were very lucky to go on.

After some time looking, I found my tree and took a few pictures, and then continued walking around looking at the other trees. Overall, I really enjoyed this trip because of how inclusive the exhibition was. It was really fun seeing all the creative trees people had made. There was also a big wooden tree that we got to make a wish on by writing a wish on a leaf and sticking it onto the tree. Thank you Radley College for inviting us!’

Year 8 art scholar Mo Britton was also on the trip and wrote:

‘I think the trip was amazing. I got to see all of the coloured trees and it was very interesting to see how all the artists had created so many different styles. My highlight was seeing my tree, where I spent a lot of time working on it by adding all the details and twig. I was very proud of my tree and got quite a few good photos of the other beautiful creative trees! I enjoyed going and hope everyone can have the chance to do this in the future!’

Head of Art, Miss Jiggens, adds:

'I was delighted that our students got to create artwork that could be put in an exhibition. Well done to Radley for coming up with such an inclusive art exhibition; the students really enjoyed going to the exhibition and seeing their tree in situ.'
