#11 - 1968

By 1968, some schools had experienced a drop in numbers, but Shiplake College were pleasantly full. We can see from our Prospectus that year, that there are ‘194 boys, of whom 8 to 10 are day boys’.

This piece from the prospectus relating to school uniform stands out, as it’s slightly less comprehensive than the school uniform guide our pupils adhere to today!

Prefect training was conducted by the Headmaster, can you recognise any of these prefects from 1968?

In 1968 the College also gained membership to the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools (AGBIS) and joined the Independent Schools Careers Service.

We can guess that the most memorable thing to happen in 1968 from a pupil perspective, however, must have been the start of the Junior Common Room Club in September. The Headmaster, Mr Eggar, poured the inaugural pint and it was a place where those over seventeen could enjoy a drink with their friends.
