Getting Down To Business
Trips & VisitsBusiness Studies

On Thursday 21 March, all 39 GCSE Year 11 business pupils went to Westfield, London, to attend the annual grade booster session run by Tutor2U. Their cinema-based workshops provide a unique interactive and effective place where students develop their exam technique and revise core topics before the 2024 exams.

Tutor2U workshops take place in a modern cinema screen which allows for some intensive exam preparation away from classroom distractions. The workshops are designed to make the most of the time in the cinema with three 40 to 50-minute morning sessions. And, with the sessions taking place in a cinema, the presenters are able to guide pupils through varied, structured activities on the big screen.

As well as looking at subject content, the workshops delve into examination techniques and provide content and tips to help pupils maximise their exam marks.

Teacher of Business, Mrs Bayley, writes the following:

‘Our pupils were sat in a 400-seater cinema theatre with other GCSE students from around London and were shown many valuable exam techniques. The first session focused on Section A from Papers One and Two, both of which focus on pure theory. The hosts showed us the crucial skills on how to achieve near full marks on each question, as this section of the exam counts for 30% of the total mark.

Session two and three were focused on the case study sections of the exam papers. Here, they showed the pupils how to include context in their answers so that they could score consistently in the higher mark bands.

The final session was a session that purely focussed on calculations and how the examiners often like to switch the format and nature of those types of questions.’
