Shiplake College offers summer training camps for novice and improving rowers. Utilising the College’s excellent facilities, the week-long camps offer expert coaching and comprehensive tuition to ensure that all participants are able to significantly develop their skills and technique.
The camps are open to boys and girls, from any school, aged 13 to 18 (ie those due to be in Years 9 to 13 from September 2018). The dates of the summer camps in 2018 are as follows:
- Week 1: Monday 30 July to Friday 3 August 2018 (non-residential)
- Week 2: Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August 2018 (residential and non-residential options)
During the camps, daily sessions will run from 10.00am. On the Friday of each week there will be some races in the afternoon. Parents are welcome, and indeed encouraged, to come and watch the races. This is a great opportunity for the rowers to demonstrate the excellent progress they will have made over the week.
Please note that Week 1 is not residential. There is a residential option for Week 2. The non-residential camps cost £255 for the week (or £60 per day if booking for 3 or 4 days only). The residential camp option in Week 2 costs £650.
For the residential camp option in Week 2, participants can arrive from 5.00pm on Sunday 5 August and are asked to depart by 10.00am on Saturday 11 August. A typical daily rowing programme would consist of breakfast followed by pilates/stretching prior to the day participants arriving at 10.00am. Following the end of the rowing camp itself at 4.00pm, boarders will have light activities such as swimming or rest and there will be a programme of evening events after dinner, such as local trips, barbecues and pool parties.
