We are delighted to relaunch our lockdown 'An Evening With' series, with an in-person event featuring legendary TV presenter Johnny Ball.

To coincide with British Science Week and to celebrate International Pi Day itself, the evening will take place on Thursday 14 March 2024.

Johnny left school with two O levels in maths and geography. But he achieved 100% in maths and soon got another three subjects on his own. After two years in Aircraft Production and three in the RAF, he started his entertainment career as a Butlin Redcoat and was for 17 years, a stand-up comedian.

Today he is renowned for being a much-loved children's TV presenter throughout the '70s and '80s, fondly remembered for his ability to bring difficult and complex maths and science subjects to life in writing and presenting 20 TV series including Think of a Number, which won a BAFTA, Think Again and Johnny Ball Reveals All, winning him legions of young fans with his props and comedy.

Johnny has produced and toured five successful educational stage musicals, while his Mind Zone Live Show, “With your Mind and Tomorrow's Technology, Anything is Possible!” sold every place in the Dome in 2000. His children’s books include Think of a Number (Go Figure in the USA where it won their Blue Ribbon and a place in the Chicago Depository of Great Books). His latest book, Wonders Beyond Numbers, provides a brief history of all things mathematical, will be featured in this 'An Evening With' event. In addition to working on other programmes such as the mid-morning magazine show with Terry Wogan and Gaby Roslin, participating in the 2012 series of Strictly Come Dancing, his zest for life keeps him busy with new ideas and projects.

The Headmaster, Mr Howe, cannot wait to interview one of his own childhood heroes for our first in-person 'An Evening With' event.

Doors open at 6.30pm (with bar available for purchasing drinks) ahead of a 7.00pm start. Following the interview and Q&A, which will finish about 8.30pm, there will be the opportunity to purchase one or more of Johnny's books, All About Number, All About Maths and Wonders Beyond Numbers
